Chisholm’s Trail is now producing Western belt buckles, badges & jewelry. We decided to do this as a result of the majority of companies that are discontinuing items of the old west. In our quest to outsource to US small businesses only, we have located a highly skilled designer and a casting source for brass, white bronze, Sterling Silver and gold. We will continue to collect and reproduce new and unique buckles, badges & jewelry found in the American West. All of our items are heavy duty. No tinny buckles found here. Chisholm’s Trail Leather is constantly searching museums and curio shops in the real Old West. Every year, we travel to Dodge City, Red Lodge, El Paso, Abliene, Tucson, and other towns steeped in the history of the Old West. We carefully examine the real articles from 100 and 200 years ago. Sometimes we have to wear white cloth gloves, to protect the aging historic gun leather from damage from elements from human hands. We measure and weigh and analyze Geronimo’s original gear, for instance. That is one of the reasons that Hollywood armorers and producers have come to rely on the authenticity of our Cowboy gear. Buckles are one of our fortes. Authentic and historic buckles. What you see in the movies may have come from us. You see, Hollywood producers ask their armorers to find the real thing. We cast our buckles in the time-honored traditional methods used when those buckles of the Old West were cast. We used thick and heavy metal, solid and true. We don’t want anything substandard with our imprint on it. Only materials that we hope will last a lifetime. Unless Johnny Ringo shoots at it, that is. But even then, our gear is liable to surprise you. Maybe that;s why some Old West cowboys, particularly from the Texas region preferred larger buckles: they provided a larger solid cast metal shield over some vital area of your anatomy.
